Pastor Pat Brady. January 22, 2021.
Joe Biden has been inaugurated as President of the United States, Donald Trump appears to be moving on with his life. Most of my circle of people hoped for President Trump to be reelected (many believe he was), I was one of those hoping for a continued Trump administration. There is talk that things will come to light that might cause the election process or our leadership to change, I don't know about any of that so I don't have an opinion about it. What I do have is biblical instruction as to how I'm to see and relate to President Biden and VP Harris, and despite my personal likes or dislikes I purpose to follow Jesus and the teachings of scripture.
Many of us were enamored with President Trump because he felt like one of us; he opposed killing babies, he professed faith in Jesus, he spoke respectfully about our God and allowed himself to be photographed and filmed praying and being prayed over. I like those things about him, but ... Donald Trump was criticized for many things that I don't care for as a Christian; adultery, dishonesty, arrogance and many other things, many of which were probably true. But, that is not the man we see today, why? Because he met Jesus and seems to be committed to following Jesus. How did he get to the point where his perspectives changed? My guess is people prayed for him, God heard their prayers and drew Mr. Trump to His Son Jesus and by God's grace Mr. Trump responded, was born again and is reflecting in his life the power of God in the person of the Holy Spirit from glory to glory unto the image of Christ. Before his experience with the living God in our eyes he's no different than Mr. Biden.
So it appears we won't have the one we like (Trump) and will have the one we don't care for (Biden), what next?
How about we pray for President Biden and VP Harris like I'm sure others prayed for President Trump.
Remember, Jesus suffered for Mr. Biden and Mrs. Harris.
Remember, Jesus didn't come to judge the world (it's already judged) but that the world would be saved through Him.
Remember, Jesus said "as the Father sent Me, so I send you."
I read in Deuteronomy about God being angry with Israel and declaring He was going to destroy them and that He would make a great nation from Moses rather than Abraham as was Israel. I noticed that Moses didn't respond by welcoming his new to potential greatness as the father of this great nation, but rather to humble himself, he prayed and fasted for 40 days that God would reconsider and embrace Israel. I want to be like Moses.
I don't care for the new President's policies, politics or the things he proposes to change in our country. Those are the things of the world, but I think God would be glorified in Mr. Biden's repenting and trusting in Jesus. How wonderful would it be if the President and VP both started glorifying the living God?
I call on all my brothers and sisters in the Lord to be like Moses and humble ourselves before God and cry out for our leader's salvation. If / when that happens they too will be transformed and be powerful to help our nation to truly be "One Nation Under God."
The scripture calls us to -
- Destroy the works of the devil (not people)
- Seek and save that which is lost (Mr. Biden and Mrs. Harris)
- Lead lost sinners to repentance
- Preach the gospel and
- Make disciples of all the nations
We're taught that -
- death and life are in the power of the tongue
- we're to treat others as we'd like to be treated
How about we leverage our relationship with God in prayer for the salvation of our President and VP?
How about we exercise the power of our tongues to bring life to President Biden and VP Harris (Gretchen Witmer too).
How about we glorify God by interceding for these folks as He would have us do and rejoice in their salvation, sanctification and transformation.
By the way, the testimony of Donald Trump's transformation is not where my hope is found but the transformation of Pat Brady, because there was not much difference between pre-Jesus me and what I dislike in pre-Jesus Trump or current day Biden/Harris.
Finally a couple of scriptures ...
1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NASB)
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Peter 2:17 (NASB)
Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.
